When it comes to watches, space is a premium. Therefore ensuring that every single millimeter within the watch is used to clearly (and cleverly) transmit information at a glance, its design is paramount. When it comes to design, history shows us that the Italians know what they are doing.

Case in point is the new design for Panerai’s updated Luminor BiTempo Dual Time Zone collection.

Able to simultaneously track two different timezones, the Luminor BiTempo’s slick design update now allows for an even more readable GMT function, thanks to the inclusion of the second time zone hand made in a vivid cerulean blue.

Housed in Panerai’s iconic Luminor range, and in the increasingly popular 44mm dial size, the new BiTempo has been interpreted in two distinct colour palettes.

The first centers on a lively blue sun-brushed dial with an alligator strap in the same rich hue (PAM01361); the second has a matte black dial and matching alligator strap (PAM01360).

One of the key (but subtle) design tweaks is the power reserve. Located in a subdial at five o’clock, a bright blue hand indicates the remaining power reserve (which extends to 72 hours when fully wound). The word ‘ore’ (Italian for ‘hours’) on the BiTempo dial is a nod to the brand’s Italian origins.

The date window has also been updated to be larger than previous models to allow for better visibility, and the introduction of the beveled aperture will be rolled out for future models going forward.

Underneath the dial, the Luminor BiTempo is powered by the Calibre P.9012 (which powers all the new Luminor models). The self-winding automatic movement is fully visible through a sapphire crystal display caseback.

Water-resistant to 30 bar (~300 meters) Luminor BiTempo features a brushed steel buckle. Also included is an additional rubber strap and a tool to allow interchangeability of the straps and a screwdriver for removing the buckle.

The sophisticated design updates of the new Luminor BiTempo, not only represents Panerai’s experience in crafting functional tool watches that its history has always been associated with, but it’s understanding of Italian design aesthetics and clever use of space sets it apart from other Swiss-made watches.
