IWC is continuing to expand its choices when it comes to traditional watches with ‘digital’ displays.
A few years back, IWC launched the ‘IWC Tribute to Pallweber’ collection, a family of three wristwatches and one pocketwatch that use the brand’s ‘digital display’ concept. Don’t be fooled by the name though, these Pallweber watches aren’t actually digital at all but they do use rotating discs under the dial to show oversized, easy to read numbers (much like a digital watch but with the craftsmanship of an analogue).
Fast forward to now and we have IWC’s newest ‘Ingeniuer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month’ that utilizes this same time-telling method. Sitting on the dial of this 45mm watch are a host of functions including the usual chronograph functions, a flyback ability, hours and minutes and of course the perpetual calendar.
Previously, those looking for an IWC perpetual calendar had the choice between the Ingenieur in gold or the Portugieser family. This new PC comes in a sleek and bold titanium, with a black and grey colour scheme. The case material is grage 5 titanium, meaning the case is incredibly strong.
Using only mechanics – nothing digital here despite what the name suggests – the watch can recognise the different lengths of each month and even account for leap days. It’s powered by the 89801 calibre movement, made by IWC in house. This movement also allows for a 68 hour power reserve.
