The endearing watchmakers at HYT – ahe 10-year-old Swiss brand that makes mechanical timepieces including hydraulic fluid to tell time – simply launched two new Flow watches with lights in the dial.
One is decked out in diamonds and the other a black vortex-like display. Both utilize a pusher located at the 4 o’clock position that generates electrical power when pushed, which then lights up the dial.
“It’s not magic– it’s a lot of science– but the effect is wow,” said Gregory Dourde, Chief Executive Officer at the launch.

“To charge, store as well as release the electricity, we had to produce one of the smallest micro-generators ever developed, a real masterpiece in terms of severe miniaturization.”
The micro-generator stores and also distributes the power needed to trigger the LEDs.
The time display on both Flow items is handled via HYT’s distinct hydro-mechanical take on horology, which uses liquids stored in tubes to show the literal flow of time.

The diamond-set model, which has blue liquid, consists of a dome at 6 o’clock along with 73 baguette-cut gems totalling 1.7 carats. They sparkly to life thanks to 13 LEDs hidden below.
Another model swaps the diamond dome with a tapered vortex shape, that showcases the bellows of the movement, where the black liquid that flows around the dial is stored. It uses 8 LEDs to brighten the dial.
Both come in 51mm stainless steel versions when they arrive later this year.
