TAG Heuer just unveiled a new Connected smartwatch.
The Swiss watchmaker launched its first-ever smart wearable back in 2015, and its latest appears to be a total re-launch (as opposed to a second iteration).
The new watch features more sensors and a refined design. Changes include new more accurate sensors, proper physical buttons, a model with a ceramic bezel and a high-resolution screen.
TAG Heuer was the first proper watchmaker to embrace smart wearables. Its first Connected smartwatch let users swap out components, and after a few years allowed users to swap its digital module for a traditional mechanical movement. Not so with the new connected.
This time around TAG Heuer has gotten rid of the feature that let customers to trade in their smartwatch for a mechanical one.
Fortunately, that means TAG took building its second Connected watch seriously; and the new watch is slimmer, more stylish, and smarter than ever before.
The watch was modelled after TAG’s classic Carrera line of watches; albeit a chunkier version. It comes in either steel or titanium at 45-millimetres, and while the screen remains the same size as the previous model (1.4-inches) in comes in at a higher pixel count, meaning it’s easier to read.
It’s not just a pretty face, however. The new Connected uses the latest Google Wear operating system, and includes GPS, a heart rate monitor, compass, accelerometer, and gyroscopic sensors to make it better for fitness and sports tracking.
To that end, TAG Heuer has also included a proprietary sports tracking app. At launch, the app will track things like running, golf, and cycling (but in future will support things like skiing and swimming).
The new TAG Heuer Connected is available right now in boutiques across the company. It starts at around US$1,800 and there’s additional straps and bracelets available for between US$100 and US$400.
