Four new tweaks to the iconic Tudor line

Back in 2016 Swiss watch manufacture Tudor wanted to launch a new staple watch that would become as emblematic of the brand, as its showpiece ‘snowflake’ hand. That watch was the Black Bay, and in just 3 years it has succeeded in its objective so much so that for 2019 the brand has released four new additions to the family.

All wrapped around the marketing line of ‘Born To Dare’ the new timepieces are all tied to some form of agressive outdoor activity. Tied into its nautical history, for at Baselworld 2019 the company released its Black Bay in a new colour: Bronze.

The Black Bay Bronze is a heafty 43mm satin-brushed case in bronze with a lightly shaded black dial. It is powered by the manufacture calibre MT5601 with a 70-hour power reserve, and includes Tudor’s hallmark ‘snowflake’ design on the hour hand. It will be available in April 2019, for approx AED14,250.

While traditionally a nautical-themed watch, the introduction of the Black Bay Chrono S&G (see below) tries to incorporate the brands motorsport history into the family. The 41mm piece comes with a COSC-certified chronograph and a tachymeter on the brand new bezel. The S+G stands for ‘Steel and Gold’, as the brand introduces a new way to fold over 02.mm pieces of gold on top of a stainless steel case – instead of using a traditional plating method. The overall idea is to ensure that the pieces will remain price accessible at approx. AED20,000 for the chronograph, and for the more stripped back (and female-focused) Black Bay 41/36/32 at AED13,800.

In terms of innovation, the brand proudly released the brand new Black Bay P01. Based on a 1960s “commando” prototype that was trialed by the US Navy, this 42mm steel watch stands out thanks to a newly patented system which allows the wearer to turn, lock and disassemble the piece’s bezel. It comes with a weather resistant hybrid leather strap and will be available from July 2019 for approx. AED13,800.
