Since Baselworld last month, the watch world has been collectively obsessed with the Rolex Pepsi GMT Master II (and its striking similarity to Tudor’s Black Bay GMT). But now’s the time to look elsewhere.
The Swiss watchmaker has given its most colourful wrist-friendly timepiece a bit of an update, for collectors looking to make a statement. The Rainbow Daytona has been updated and now comes in Everose Gold.
The Rainbow Daytona was first released in 2012, in both white and yellow gold. The watches were released in limited values, but have since almost doubled in value (the white gold version was sold originally for around US$90,000 – last year Phillips sold the same watch for US$173,000).
Owning a Rainbow isn’t necessarily first-come-first-serve. It’s one of the most sought-after timepieces for Rolex collectors and despite its 40mm casing, due to its bejewelled bezel, it’s popular amongst both men and women.
First dibs for the new Everose version will go to those who already own a Rainbow Daytona, further making this exclusive watch even more exclusive for first-time buyers.
For those unaware, Everose is Rolex’s proprietary gold – which contains 76 percent gold mixed with 2 percent platinum, while the rest is copper (which provides that lovely pink hue). The platinum molecules actually keep the copper stable, so that the timepiece maintains its unique colour over time.
Complementing that rose gold colour are 26-baguette-cut sapphires, in Rainbow gradation, as well as 11 baguette-cut sapphire hour markers and 56 brilliant-cut diamonds around the side.
The new just-released Everose version of the Daytona Rainbow is selling for US$96,900 – which is a wise investment if you can get your hands on one.
