Omega has just launched its first e-commerce initiative, an online boutique

Omega has long resisted the siren call of ecommerce.

Although most of their watches were previously sold on the ‘grey market’, the products were yet to find an official channel to be sold on.

Omega has finally got with the times, joining Panerai and others in a move that signals a major change in the way expensive watches are bought.

Exclusively for customers in the USA, the brand’s famous collections, including Speedmaster, Seamaster, Constellation and De Ville, can now be purchased directly through the company’s website.

Until now, customers relied only on location-based boutiques when buying straight from the brand; so this addition will probably change the company’s game big time.

To motivate fans to purchase online, Omega have released an exclusive Seamaster Planet Ocean “Michael Phelps” Limited Edition which will only be found on the website. The watch boasts an incredible Master Chronometer movement as well as a captivating combination of colours.

Raynald Aeschlimann, President and CEO of OMEGA, is excited about the many advantages for the brand and its customers, “By offering online sales in the United States, OMEGA can now reach fans in every corner of the country. No one is restricted geographically, which will make us much more accessible. We also recognise that e-commerce is growing rapidly in the luxury sector and many of today’s consumers use it as their primary way to shop.”

Setting aside the numerous advantageous; the online store poses a tiny disadvantage to customers. The launch of an e-commerce website means that Omega gets to keep most of its profit. You’re not going to get a special deal if you buy online and Swiss watchmakers rarely discount so, an extra expense will be added to the already expensive watch.

This is just the beginning for Omega, the brand expects that more countries will follow in the near future.
