Ordering a made-to-measure suit is something that any should do at least once in his life and, thankfully, Dubai has a fine selection of tailors who specialise in just that. Here are five of the city’s best:

Suitsupply
Suitsupply has forced Dubai’s tailors to step up their game since opening its doors in late 2016. The ultra-cool Dutch brand’s ideology of what a modern tailor should be has seen its popularity explode in Europe and the US. Its debut store (pictured below) in the City Walk mall (it’s a hidden away behind Lima restaurant, so ask for directions), looks to bring modern cuts and aesthetics, and high-quality fabrics to customers for prices reasonable price (suits start from a very appealing Dhs1,500). One of the biggest successes of the brand on a global scale has been the high-level of staff training to advise customers on sizing, style and accessories, in a relaxed and conversational manner. After all, a little style advice never hurts does it.

Bespoke
The Parmar family are somewhat of a Dubai tailoring institution (see below), and with Bespoke they have taken their service to a whole new level. The upscale arm of their tailoring empire, the tailors at Bespoke use time-proof, 1920s inspired measuring techniques to make the whole process very personal, and definitively – as the name suggests – bespoke. Within its prim-and-proper DIFC store it offers a vast selection of fabrics – including being the only distributor of Zegna fabric in the country – and a hands-on approach that stresses a job well done, rather than a quick delivery. As they like to say: You can’t rush art.

Ascott & Chapels
With seven locations around the country, Ascott & Chapels has taken little time to grow into a tailoring behemoth. Headed up by the sharp-dressed (and all-round nice guy) Mahir Ali, the tailor specialises in modern cuts and offers a mind-bending selection of 6,000 materials – ranging from English and Swiss Cotton to The Luxury of Sea Island. Store policy dictates that three fitting sessions are carried out for made-to-measure suits, and being the good guys they are offer two pairs of trousers with every suit. A further string to its bow is the additional services offered by stylist and colour anaylist, Janet Small, who regularily consults with individual clients about the colours and cuts that best suit them.

Collars & Cuffs
Perhaps the only reason to ever go to the oft-desolate Sunset Mall on Jumeirah Beach Road, Collars & Cuffs’ reputation is on the rise. Offering a signature ’Six step experience’, which includes regular consultations and fittings with the tailor as you browse through the 1,000 or so varieties of materials and patterns sourced from reputable Italian and English mills. Specialising in handmade, made-to-measure suits and shirts there are plenty of flourishes you can add including hand-sown initialing, pick-stitched lapels and mother-of-pearl buttons. However, if you’d prefer to Sunset Mall entirely, then Collars & Cuffs provides a concierge service that will have its tailors come to you. Now that is an experience.

Parmar Tailors
Established in 1956, Parmar Tailors is the undeniable king of affordable tailoring in Dubai. With branches in Bur Dubai and JLT, it is able to offer good-quality made-to-measure suits and shirts to men the length and breadth of the city. Sourcing fabrics from mills around Italy and the UK – including brands like Bellini and Bronzino – once you are fully measured up, your details are stored onto their database so that any future commissioning can be made over the phone.
