PUMA’s on a roll. After reviving the iconic Speedcat earlier this year, the brand has now launched a new collaboration inspired by Harry Potter. And once again, they’re tapping into something that works really well—emotion and nostalgia.
Let’s start with the PUMA Speedcat. Originally released in 1999 and inspired by Formula 1 racing, the Speedcat was a movement. When they made a comeback this year, I was thrilled. The Speedcat takes me back to a time when sports shoes weren’t just functional—they set trends.

When the new “Royal Blue” colour dropped, I rushed to get it. I can confirm—it’s still just as sleek and lightweight, but now with updated comfort and build. It’s a perfect example of how a brand can modernize a classic without losing what made it great in the first place.

Now, just two weeks ago, the Harry Potter x PUMA collection inspired by the wizarding world arrived in Dubai. Built around the “Hogwarts house” colours, the sneakers draw from “Gryffindor” (red and gold) and “Slytherin” (green and silver). It’s clearly aimed at fans of the franchise—and it makes sense. Harry Potter has a massive following, and the series still resonates with many.

That said, this one didn’t quite hit the mark for me. Maybe it’s the colours, maybe it’s because I wasn’t a big Harry Potterfan, but the design just didn’t grab me like the return of the Speedcat did. Still, I get the appeal—and I’m sure the collection will find its audience.
Bottom line? PUMA knows what it’s doing. The brand is building buzz by creating products people have an emotional connection to. And that’s a smart move in today’s market.
