J.M. Weston, the luxury French footwear brand founded in 1891, is one of those more understated brands that doesn’t shout at you from magazine adverts and big name associations. But this low-key approach shouldn’t distract you from the commitment to quality. This is a brand with a proud heritage, much loved in its homeland, where they know a thing or two about shoes.
Here’s another thing you probably don’t know about the brand. Its Dubai Mall boutique has a ‘Made to order’ service offering myriad ways to create a totally unique pair of shoes. You get to choose from 180 different types of leathers – including lizard skin and nubuck – and 46 different colour tones. There are more than 100 customizable shoe styles and over 20 types of soles, seven lining colours, and 25 perforation motifs. If you can do the maths on exactly how many combinations that allows, you tried harder in school than we did. We’ll hazard a guess that it is a lot.
Once you agonised over your choice, the design is sent to the JM manufacturer in Limoges in west-central France, where the pair will be hand-made and delivered in 10 weeks.
