Since the release of Top Gun: Maverick earlier this year, profits from Ray-Ban Aviator sales have been barrel-rolling in according to Bloomberg News Week. Clearly every fashionisto wants to look as cool as Tom Cruise does in those shades.
According to a representative from UK sunglasses retailer David Clulow, the RB3025 Aviator is officially one of the most popular sunglasses this summer. Perhaps everyone’s looking to wear their new Ray-Bans and recreate their own version of the beach football scene from the film.

The sequel was released 36 years after the original Top Gun and has earned $1.2. billion in the box office. Perhaps not surprisingly, when this film came out, Ray-Ban sales rose by 40 per cent in the first seven months after the films release. This was for a similar reason as the original Top Gun became known for its iconic beach volleyball scene which inspired the idea to recreate it in its sequel.

The scene was almost like an effective advertisement for Ray-Ban and its multifunctional eyewear because one YouTube user commented:
“Same sunglasses for playing volleyball, driving and piloting a military jet, this is amazing!”
Speaking to The Daily Beast, Top Gun: Maverick’s costume designer, Marlene Stewart stated that Tom Cruise has a very specific taste when it comes to Ray-Bans which meant that he tried many different fitting and styles of the sunglasses.
“We had many, many fittings for the glasses. These are classic, Aviator Ray-Bans, and what I do and what costume designers do is you work with props, who is in charge of making the glasses. Altering them, customizing them. I’m in charge of the look, which includes the glasses, but I work in tandem with props, so that when we had a fitting with Tom, we knew of course that the Aviators were going to be on board. That was never a question.”
