You’d excuse Anwar Hadid for having confidence issues. The 19-year-old didn’t just grow up with two supermodel sisters (the names Gigi and Bella are now synonymous with social media superstardom), but his mum is a Dutch former model and reality television star, while his father is a property mogul. That’s a lot for anyone to live up to.
Despite the success of his sisters and the fame of his parents, Anwar Hadid appears to be carefully and calmly exploring his own celebrity. And unlike the throngs of young film and popstars who were thrust into the spotlight too early, Anwar doesn’t seem too concerned about it. You’re more likely to find him running around Los Angeles with his pals, Jaden Smith and model Lucky Blue Smithy, than at some posh fashion launch. But that’s soon about to change.
Anwar was signed up, like his sisters before him, with IMG models at the age of 16. While becoming professionally good looking was never something he aspired to be (it was his mum that signed him up) he’s now starting to embrace it. He walked – along with both his sisters – in Tommy Hilfiger‘s RockNow event in London, as well as Moschino and Philipp Plein runway shows earlier this year. He has also been named the face of Hugo Boss menswear.
While Anwar Hadid may not have wanted to follow his sisters down the runway, in the beginning, fashion is certainly in his future now. Anwar plans to move to New York and study fashion in New York and has often said he’d hope to have his own label someday. Does that mean his sisters might one day be working for him? Mohamed Hadid
Mohamed Hadid is a Jordanian-American real estate developer, of Palestinian origin. He moved to Washington at the age of 14. While he dabbles in many businesses, he is best known for building luxury hotels and mansions, predominantly in the high-profile Bel Air neighbourhood of Los Angeles.
