Following the 327 and 237, NB’s latest is rooted in retro-futurism

New Balance is continuing its white-hot 2021 with the drop of a new silhouette—the XC-72.

The shoe is the latest in its Shifted collection, building on the design of the 327 and 237 models for something even more eye-catching, purposefully capturing the retro-futuristic aesthetic and a push towards sustainability.

A modern interpretation of the brand’s retro runner silhouettes, the tri-textured CR and outsole are accompanied by leather and suede on the upper that are both chrome-free, making it more environmentally friendly.

“The XC-72 is the physical embodiment of retro-futurism,” said XC-72 designer Charlotte Lee.

“As with the 327, I asked myself ‘if I was a designer in the 70’s what would I create as new balance’s concept car?’. I took inspiration and specific elements from the past and reimagined them for today’s consumer. This methodology creates a timeless design that we hope will be reimagined, yet again, in another 40 years.”

While it’s already droped in the US, it’s yet to come to the UAE, so head here to find out more and register interest, especially with new colorways dropping throughout the autumn months.

It’s set to retail for anywhere from AED 499 – AED 699

Shifting from the traditional divisions of gender and designed through progressive style, the XC-72 is a unisex model with a tri-textured CR and outsole that offers a modern interpretation of the brand’s retro-runner silhouettes.

The silhouette debuted with a collab with Casablanca, one of the most popular New Balance collaborators.

New Balance is also dropping the gorgeous Joe Freshgoods collab this week. Find out how to get it here.
