Tommy Hilfiger is bringing his TommyNow fashion extravaganza back to New York.
The news comes as the Tommy team prep for the see-now-buy-now fashion concept which will kick-off in September. Over the last few years, the designer has instead chosen to feature the show in cities such as Los Angeles, London, Shanghai and Paris.
TommyNow will take place at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem, on September 8 – which is during New York Fashion Week.
It will include the Fall 2019 edition of his partnership with singer and actress Zendaya. Apparently it was Zendaya who ultimately chose the location of the runway show.
“Zendaya’s desire to bring TommyNow to Harlem felt like an amazing next step in expressing her vision for the future,” Hilfiger said in a statement. “Her statement-making point of view in everything she does is what makes her such an inspiring collaborator — it is an honor to continue to provide her with a platform in the fashion industry to share this.”
Legends such as Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, Patti LaBelle and The Supremes have all graced the stage at The Apollo theatre.
According to the statement, the Fall 2019 Tommy x Zendaya collection “takes cue from these strong and confident women, reimagining era-defining power dressing with a bold modern edge.”
The first collection from the collaboration was unveiled in Paris earlier in the year.
Hilfiger first unveiled the TommyNow concept back in 2016. It allows fans to purchase the collections unveiled at his interactive shows fresh from the catwalks. In previous years it has involved themes such as funfairs, music festivals and even a Formula One race.
