Paul Smith chose to present both his man and women’s collections on one catwalk – a first in the sartorial icon’s career. The collection – however – harks back to Sir Paul Smith’s heritage; including his love of british textiles, as well as many of his trademark aesthetic hallmarks throughout the years.
Early on in his career – as the UK textile industry was booming – Smith was employed by the International Wool Secretariat and toured the country in search for innovative fabrics and cloth designs. In an ode to this experience, Paul Smith’s latest collection uses materials produced by Lovatt and Hardy Minnis, as well as Prince of Wales Check and Black Watch tartan.
The British-led focus can also be seen in knitwear, with Scottish cashmere in muted colours, and Fair Isle knits with woven charm motifs that add texture and colour. Shirts feature classic floral prints, as well as exclusive Liberty prints.
As per usual, Paul Smith’s outrageous use of colour continues to prevail this season. Expect clashing bolts of box red and British racing green. Elsewhere, Smith contrasts soft silks with cashmere.
Prints are once again a cornerstone in the collection, including a colourful feather motif that’s printed onto silk, or hand-embroidered onto cashmere coats and leather accessories.
