Taking it back to the ‘80s

While fans of all-things footwear may be familiar with the likes of the GEL-Lyte III, V, GEL-Sight, and GEL-Saga, few know of — much less, have ever seen — the original GEL-Lyte. Released back in 1987, the kicks were a sleek GEL-cushioned precursor to the GEL-Lytes we know and love today. And to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original, ASICS has brought back the silhouette in one of its OG colourways.

Marked by a black and white upper and the usual leather branding stripes, the design is highlighted by mesh and suede construction along with a dash of bright orange, a dual-density midsole, and signature GEL cushioning. You can get your hands on a pair of these fresh creps for Dhs 425.

The ASICS Gel-Lyte OG aren’t the only throwbacks on offer either, as the Gel-DS Trainer OG, which first launched in 1995, have also made a return. Originally designed for serious, high mileage runners, this shoe’s unique look transformed it into a street style classic. A lightweight fit with flexibility and grip, a pair of these will set you back Dhs 595

Don’t worry if neither of these kicks seem like your cup of tea, as we asked the store tribe over at amongst few to curate a list of their essential summer Asics trainers found both in-store at its palm strip premises or on its online store
