The most stylish morning coats, skin fades, facial hair (and tears)

This is an important moment in history as the royal marriage, one of the last major royal weddings we’ll see for a while, is very modern.

A legit Prince marries an American actress, who is also a biracial divorcée, and whose first job was reportedly at a fro-yo shop. Wow.

So we need to talk about the clothes, the morning dress, the not-morning dress (the suits), and the grooming moves because if there’s one thing you can count on from an important royal affair, it is that everyone will be properly dressed.

Prince Harry (with bonus Prince William)

Gotta do the Prince first because it is his wedding. It’s always a good idea to wear a military uniform, because, well, just take a look. Harry looks doubly regal in the frock coat of The Household Calvary. Also, we are glad he kept the beard. (Also, we like the golden braids on Wills).

And don’t they look happy?

George Clooney

A showcase of American style, Clooney chooses a daytime palette of gray suit with a hint of pattern, powder blue shirt, and striped yellow tie and pocket square. Is he going to brunch? Nah. He’s just coordinating with wife, Amal, who wears mustard yellow.

David Beckham

From the other side of the pond, Beckham gives us a lesson in British morning dress: a dark coat with a tail over a contrasting white shirt and light gray waistcoat. The overall mood is traditional and strict—as strict as wife Posh’s always-black uniform.

Beckham gives the dress code a swerve with sunglasses and the fresh cut, both of which add serious star wattage

Idris Elba

The suit, yes, is great (if you’re a man with an athletic build, look to this fit for inspiration), but mind also the hair. Only Elba can pull off an abrupt and high skin fade with a textured mop.

Tom Hardy

Well, see, if you’ve played badasses on films like Bane in the superior version of Batman or Venom in the upcoming movie of the same name, then you will have no problem pulling off a full-on shave. The grooming move amps up the look of his suit: bad boy hair with good boy threads. In style and life, contrasts work (like Harry and Meghan).

James Middleton

It’s all about the details for the brother of Kate (err, we mean, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge): a full but well-groomed beard and a tiny tie pin that holds his silk tie just so.

Alexis Ohanian

The co-founder of Reddit and husband of tennis superstar Serena Williams (we want to know how these guys met) shows us how to be a good guest: Follow the dress code to the letter, even if it’s no fun. Sure, a penguin suit is not exciting, but that’s the point. You’re not supposed to stand out. Your supposed to look good and your wife, like Serena, should shine.
