Their vans are buzzing in every neighbourhood. You can’t miss their drivers in your building while they deliver clean clothes to your neighbours’ doorsteps. You might have heard their witty ads on the radio or maybe a colleague was talking about them the other day. Washmen is everywhere.
As modern lives are increasingly fast paced, a new generation of businesses are flourishing to help people keep up with this unprecedented acceleration. The uberization of business models is expanding to all kinds of sectors beyond mobility and it is currently reshaping the laundry space too.
Washmen, the UAE’s most popular app based laundry & dry cleaning service has seen remarkable growth in the laundry space backed by minimal marketing investments. “More than 73% of our growth is generated by word of mouth” says Rami Shaar, CEO and Co-founder of Washmen. Fully aligned with modern lifestyles, this new breed of businesses do not need a strong push to be adopted. Just as with Uber and Deliveroo, we are becoming more accustomed to the new ways of getting things done..
“Traditionally, all of our orders came from people wanting their formal wear to be cleaned and ironed. So, we’ve noticed that a large portion of the laundry basket at home was not catered for. After several surveys, we decided to launch an affordable solution that would allow our customers to send out items like gym clothes, linens and casual wear for cleaning.”
Recently, Washmen launched a Wash Everything Bag, a new service that can potentially disrupt the laundry market. For a set price of AED 49, Washmen customers can get all of their weekly laundry sorted.
“Our new process is similar to washing at home as we split colors and wash items separately. More importantly, we don’t mix your intimates with anybody else’s.” adds Rami Shaar in a recent interview..
The service itself is incredibly simple; customers fill their laundry into one of the colour-coded bags and schedule a pickup through the app. Washmen picks up the clothes, launders them and gets them back in two days (one-day express services are also available).
As Rami Shaar puts it: “The idea is to rethink laundry completely. Washing machines are a relic of the past. We are the future of laundry”. The bold attitude of the tech company is brilliantly shouted on their colorful vans that state “ I came. I saw. I laundered.
