Elegance and attitude

Describing Gucci’s Ace sneaker as “tennis shoe” is a bit like calling Lionel Messi an above-average footballer. Technically it is correct but hardly does justice to the how far they are ahead of the competition.

It’s for this reason that Gucci has made this, ahem, tennis shoe, a focus of its pre-fall 2016 season, with a new range that showcases the Midas touch of creative director Alessandro Michele.

The basic white version (another understatement of criminal proportions) has been adorned with patches, embroideries, bees, hares, fish, stars, thunderbolts and many other symbols that have graced Gucci’s recent stellar collections. There are pearls and studs, bee-print jacquards, metallic blue snakeskin trim, Baroque-style floral fabrics, metallic red leather trims, and a black crocodile version for an elegant, ultra-luxurious look.

And, as a nod to the 30-year anniversary of punk rock in the UK, there is a punk-inspired Ace, featuring studs and spikes giving it a tough, iconic edge. These are sneakers with serious attitude that, like most things in the house of Gucci in recent times, lead where others follow.

Available in Gucci stores across the region.
