Smart sneakers are the next big thing in fitness

Asics is getting into fitness tracker territory, with a range of new shoes that will track your every step.

This week at CES – the world’s biggest consumer show in Las Vegas – Asics revealed its first prototype that will become a complete range of smart shoes.

While they currently don’t have a name, the smart sneakers were created with help from Japanese start-up No New Fold Studio, and come with intelligent tech to analyse a runner’s performance.

Each pair will have an embedded Orphe Track sensor that can monitor everything from kick strength and stability, as well as location and a lot more.

The working prototype features Asics’ Evoride running shoes. According to the company, however, it will be creating an entirely new line for the shoes, and not simply adding the tracker to a new range currently available.

While this will mark the first time Asics has jumped into the technology game, No New Fold Studio has previously embedded its trackers in shoes for the Japan market only.

As of right now, there’s nothing concrete on launch date – however, the smart money says that Asics will launch its new line in time for the summer running season.
