Big news for Middle East sailing fans today, as it’s been announced that Abu Dhabi will host the ISAF Sailing World Cup Final.
The ISAF Sailing World Cup is the annual circuit of Olympic class competitions for the sport’s professionals, with the World Cup Final its center piece. Abu Dhabi is set to host the final in the last week of November, bringing even more sailing joy to the capital.
The Final will bring together the top 20 boats in each Olympic event, providing them with a challenge to compete against the best of the best. The elite competitors will be racing for the crown of ISAF Sailing World Cup Champion and also the ISAF Sailing World Cup prize purse.
Carlo Croce, ISAF President, said: “The United Arab Emirates is rich in maritime history and we are delighted that Abu Dhabi will be hosting the ISAF Sailing World Cup Final from 2014 to 2017.”
“Over recent years Abu Dhabi has established itself as a major hub for hosting international sporting and cultural events. We look forward to working closely with the UAE Sailing and Rowing Federation, the Organising Committee for Abu Dhabi Sailing Events, over the next few months and years.”
With the Volvo Ocean Race also heading to Abu Dhabi in January of next year, the capital is gearing itself up for some fantastic sailing.
