Elon Musk is at it again. Not content with breaking the internet by threatening to buy Twitter, now the billionaire/memelord has his eye on another rundown mansion that’s past its glory days: English Premier League club Manchester United.
Or does he? In a response to the Tesla Owners Silicon Valley account, Tesla CEO Musk says the suggestion is actually a long-running joke on Twitter and he’s not in the market for any sports teams. That might actually come as a huge disappointment to fans of the struggling club (and other struggling franchises around the world dreaming of a cash injection).
If he were interested in the club, it might be a good time to put in a bid. Even though Manchester United is still valued at $2.4 billion, the club currently sits at the bottom of the table. In its most recent match, the team lost 4-0 to Brentford, who were only promoted to the Premiership in 2020.

Musk might want to be careful when joking about buying things. Twitter is suing him in Delaware over his abandonment of the deal to buy the company. As the trial looms, Musk sold $7 billion worth of Tesla stock in case things get expensive.
No comment yet on the whole thing from the Manchester United’s actual current owners, the American Glazer family.
