Lionel Messi was in Dubai yesterday. The Argentine was spotted leaving the airport, for an undisclosed reason.
Surprisingly for one of the world’s biggest football stars, he was travelling without his usual entourage. Neither his wife nor his Barcelona teammates joined him on the trip.
He also took a late flight – leaving Mundo Deportivo late Sunday night and arriving in the early hours of Dubai.
So why was Leo here in Dubai? According to Diario Sport, the footballer was here to put the final touches on his Expo 2020 ambassadorship – the footballer was named one of the major faces of the world’s greatest fair last November.

While he has already filmed some promotional videos, he was in town to go over some of the finer points ahead of Expo 2020’s official kick-off in October.
Messi will stay in Dubai until later tonight. He is expected to be doing some more newspaper and magazine publicity (photo shoots and the like) alongside celebrating being named as Laureus World Sports Awards for Sportsman of the year.
Messi was joined on the podium by none other than ex-Esquire Middle East cover star Lewis Hamilton.
Even though Messi hasn’t found the net for La Liga in almost a month, he has notched up six assists in the last three league games.
