Dubai has a brand new diet – one that promises to get you healthier than ever before (and help you lose some flab at the same time).
The ‘Fasting Mimicking Diet’ is based on US$36 million worth of research over the past 20 years, lead by Dr. Longo and the Longevity Institute at University of Southern California.
Not to bore you with the science, but despite being able to order your favourite fast food at all hours of the day, apparently eating a burger at three in the morning isn’t very good for you. Instead, humans were built to go through small periods of feeding, followed by longer hours of fasting.
When the body fasts over long periods of time it puts our organs under stress, which puts our cells into overdrive. Cells deal with the stress by going through something called autophagy (basically, they cannibalize all the things that make us sick for energy).
But herein lies the problem: going days without food isn’t very much fun.
Enter ProLon – which is a five-day meal plan that gives your body just enough nutrients and calories so you don’t tear your hair out, but nowhere near enough to sate your cells. In turn, your body goes into fasting mode.
Five days of fasting supposedly is a heck of a lot of good for you, and will reset your body for more energy, cut a few inches from your waistline and activate the circulation of stem cells throughout the body.
But don’t take our word for it. There is an awful lot of science that goes in to this diet, which is best absorbed either via Dr. Longo’s best-selling book or the official ProLon UAE website.
The diet comes along pre-packaged and seperated into days one to five. Each day involves a selection of soups, bars, teas, and pills – all designed to help you get into fasting mode (and stay there, without feeling too hungry).
Each box costs AED1150 per package. Keep in mind, despite the benefits of the diet healthy individuals are only supposed to do it every couple of months.
