That’s according to a huge new study of 400,000 people

Death is quite scary.

By and large, the more you can do to kick that particular can down the road the better, and a big new study has found that using an Apple Watch can keep the Grim Reaper from harvesting your soul for a full two years longer than average.

Just owning an Apple Watch and being in the same room as it won’t really do the trick: the study used cash to motivate people too. Basically, 400,000 participants had their fitness and activity levels monitored.

Those with Apple Watches were charged US$15 a month for the privilege but didn’t have to pay anything if they hit their fitness targets.

Those with the trackers managed 4.8 days of activity each month while those without only dragged themselves out of the house for 3.5 days of activity. Matt Hancock, the UK’s minister for health and social care, is a big fan of wearable tech.

“If there is any one overriding theme of the digital revolution it’s increased choice,” Hancock said at the launch of the report yesterday. “And if you look at people’s everyday behaviour they like personalisation and they use personalised services.”
