The Super 4 stage fixture between India and Sri Lanka takes place tonight at 6pm GST. If India don’t emerge the victors, they’ll be eliminated from the tournament, says former India cricket player Virender Sehwag.
“If India lose another match by chance, they will be out of the tournament. Pakistan have the advantage because if they lose one match and win another, their net run rate will take them to the final as they have lost one match and won two. India have lost one and if they lose another, they are out. So pressure is on India. Pakistan will play in the final after a long time and have also beaten India after a long time in the Asia Cup” says Sehwag.
Asia Cup 2022 standings
Currently, India is at the top of Group A with a 2-1 record and a net run rate of +1.096 while Sri Lanka occupy second place in group B with a 2-1 record and a net run rate of -2.233.
While Pakistan are currently 2 points behind India, they have the highest net run rate in the Asia Cup with +3.811. if India loses, Pakistan will overtake them and claim the top spot in group A.
In the last Super 4 match, India were defeated by Pakistan by five wickets with just one ball left.
“This could be Pakistan’s year” he claimed.
This years Asia Cup has had its fair share of close matches as Sri Lanka beat Afghanistan by 4 wickets with 5 balls left.
Who’s won the most?
India have won the Asia Cup seven times and Sri Lanka have won it five times. If India lose and Pakistan win as Sehwag predicts, this will be the third time that Pakistan have won the tournament.
Sri Lanka have also played the most Asia Cups with 14 while India, Pakistan and Bangladesh have played 13 each.
