We use the word influencer a lot. Who really has influence, when it comes down to it?
One person who undeniably can move the needle is footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, who yesterday moved a needle on many a Bloomberg Terminal as Coca-Cola’s share prices fell by $4 billion after the Portugal star briefly snubbed the beverage.
In a press conference in Budapest, the 36 year old made a face and moved Coca-Cola off the table in front of him, moving water in its spot, encouraging people to drink water instead, it seemed.
Coca-Cola, one of the official sponsors of Euro 2020, we can assume was not happy, as not only were they disrespected by one of the Euro’s stars, but the move coincided by the company’s share price to drop from $56.10 to $55.22, a 1.6 percent dip and a $4 billion drop in value.
Ronaldo has around 300 million Instagram followers, so it’s safe to say people pay attention to his every move.
Ronaldo is having a great summer on the field, scoring twice in Tuesday’s win over Hungary, leading his team to a 3-0 victory.
Ronaldo is a big fan of Dubai, often seen vacationing in the cosmopolitan city, so hopefully we’ll be able to offer him a bottle of water–not a Coke, mind you–the next time we run into him on the beaches of JBR.
