Sports entertainment is back in Saudi

If you thought ‘The Greatest Royal Rumble’ WWE event in Jeddah earlier this year was groundbreaking, well hold on to you (metal) seats, as the WWE has just announced that it will be returning to Saudi Arabia in early November with an event headlined by triple-threat WWE Universal Title match between Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman.

The Friday, November 2, show named ‘WWE Crown Jewel’ will see the sports entertainment juggernaught doubling down on its hugely successful first ‘special event’ in the Kingdom last April, by introducing a new ‘WWE World Cup’ concept, which is described as a “tournament to determine the best in the world”.

In their statement confirming the event, WWE said: “General Sports Authority of Saudi Arabia Chairman His Excellency Turki Al Sheikh, WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia invite the world to celebrate this signature event.

“Following WWE’s sold-out Greatest Royal Rumble in Jeddah in April, this is the second event as part of a long-term partnership between WWE and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
