It’s raining…worms? Yep, in China’s Liaoning province, citizens were surprised to find that little worms were raining from the skies, covering cars and filling city streets, and no one could figure out how it happened.

But wait, how did it happen? According to the Mother Nature Network, a scientific journal, the most likely explanation is that they were swept up by heavy winds and then dropped throughout the city.

This does actually happen from time to time, as heavy storms can do the same for insects that are caught in a whirlpool.

Noe all agree with this explanation, however. Some have suggested these are poplar flowers, a tulip tree whose blooms look like worms from afar.

“These are not worms or animals, but flower stalks dropped from trees,” said one person.

Whatever it was, it was definitely not something you wanted to get caught in the way of, as citizens were seen using umbrellas to protect themselves from the falling worms.

“If i was just minding my business on a casual day in China and it started raining worms ?? i’d just die,” said another person.

Worms and more: Weird things that have rained from the sky

This isn’t even the first time this has happened. Back in 2015, it was raining worms in Norway, and then before that, it rained worms in Scotland. There was also a shower of jellyfish in Bath, England in 1894.

In 2013, it rained spiders in Platino Brazil.

We’re not making any of this up. Read more about those events here.

Honestly, if i’m to posit a theory–hear me out–I think it might be a Chinese remake of the film Magnolia, which famously ended with frogs raining from the sky.

That, too was actually inspired by a real life phenomena.

Ok I’m not serious about the Magnolia thing. But seriously, worms! They fell from the sky! Or possibly flowers!

Anyways, stay safe out there people, and please bring an umbrella, as you never know what plague might hit us next.
