People across the UAE are waking up to find their network has switched from their regular du or Etisalat, to a new one that reads, ‘UAE KSA TOGETHER’.
Users immediately jumped to Twitter, questioning both of the UAE’s telecoms agencies as to why that might be. The answer? It’s all part of an elaborate celebration of Saudi Arabia’s national day.
Saudi National Day takes place on Saturday, September 23 – so we expect the network message will stay around until then.
According to our friends at Wikipedia:
Saudi National Day is celebrated in Saudi Arabia on every 23 September to commemorate the establishment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by King Abdulaziz in 1930. All government departments and institutions are suspended in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to celebrate the National Day.
Does this mean we’re going to be seeing more custom network names in future? Probably.
