The sight of precipitation may no longer be cause for a state of emergency in Dubai, as Sheikh Mohammed has just announced a AED 30 billion rain drainage network throughout the emirate. Named “Tasreef”, the program will drastically enhance Dubai’s capacity for rainwater by up to 700%, covering every inch of the emirate.
Set to be completed by 2033, construction will begin immediately, and will serve Dubai and its citizens for the next hundred years, according to Sheikh Mohammed .
The ‘Tasreef’ project extends Dubai’s drainage initiatives initiated in 2019, encompassing the Expo Dubai area, Al Maktoum International Airport City, and Jebel Ali. It is expected to establish the largest rainwater collection network in the region, spanning across all areas of Dubai and capable of absorbing over 20 million cubic meters of water daily.
The project will employ state-of-the-art Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs), recognised as the largest in the Middle East. These machines are renowned for their efficiency, speed, and precise excavation capabilities, adept at navigating natural weather disasters.
