On August 31, a new Roxy Cinemas is opening at the Dubai Hills Mall and will be home to the largest cinema screen in the MENA region called Roxy Xtreme. The screen will be 423 square metres which is twice the size of two tennis courts and the auditorium will seat 382 people.
Size matters
The screen will be even bigger than the largest IMAX cinema in Dubai’s IMG Worlds of Adventure which features a screen that’s 24.4 metres wide and 13.8 metres high, while the Roxy Xtreme will be 28 metres by 15.1 metres in size.
Imagine seeing a desert battlefront scene where rows of soldiers and tanks are moving across a sea of sand dunes. A screen of that size will really amplify the magnitude of large ground or aerial battles and even if war films aren’t your thing, Chief Executive Officer at Dubai Holding Entertainment Fernando Eiroa says that the screen was built to accommodate all types of movie lovers.
“The 15-screen Roxy Cinemas multiplex at Dubai Hills Mall will redefine the cinema-going experience for the UAE audiences with new levels of luxury across all our screens. Roxy Xtreme sets a new benchmark for cinemas in Dubai and the wider region as the huge screen provides an unforgettable experience for all types of movie lovers.”
How Roxy takes it to the Xtreme
The seating will consist of three different tiers: Standard, Premier and Director’s Boxes. The three Director’s Boxes are luxurious seating areas situated above the auditorium which will have 12 seats each and are said to offer a great view of the Roxy Xtreme screen while giving viewers privacy and exclusive benefits.
These include access to an on-demand waiter service which will bring you snacks and drinks, reclining seats with the option of heating them and adjusting both the head and footrest, wireless charging capabilities and a swivel table to dump your stuff as opposed to leaving it on your lap for 2 hours.
Roxy Platinum
Anyone wishing to take things a step further can opt for the Roxy Platinum experience which will allow people to order gourmet food such as bao buns, burgers, tacos, salads, desserts and more from the exclusive Platinum lounge before heading into the movie theatre. You can also order directly from your seat inside the cinema and a blanket will be provided if you’re the type that gets cold easily.
