A man required a helicopter rescue mission in Fujairah today after a fuel tanker caught fire on Sheikh Maktoum Street in the emirate, according to the UAE’s National Search and Rescue Centre.
The NSRC and the Fujairah police saved the man’s life, described as an ‘Asian individual’ by Khaleej Times, after the helicopter landed directly on the road leading to the accident, which occurred in Al Bithnah.
The injured man was then rushed to Fujairah Hospital.
Video of the rescue was released by the NSRC, who also blocked the road in both directions, with long traffic in both directions as the authorities rushed to save the man and stop the fire, as thick black smoke shot into the sky, which would be seen for miles.
The road has since been reopened, according to the Fujairah Police.
Fujairah flood rescue
Courageous rescue efforts also took place recently after the UAE emirate of Fujairah was hit with heavy rains and flooding.
UAE government accounts have been posting videos of efforts from the UAE Joint Operations Command and others who have launched ‘Operation Loyal Hands’ to support civil authorities in Fujairah.
Houses and cars have been damaged in the flash floods after heavy rains, leaving many desperate for help, to which the UAE Ministry of Defence has rushed to aid.
The Ministry of Interior has also been working with police and civil defence authorities along with the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA) in order “respond to any emergency as a result of the torrential rain that hit a number of regions in the country” as well.
No casualties in Fujairah flooding
The good news is, there have been no casualties nor severe damage, according to government bodies.

“We assure everyone that despite the heavy rain and volatile weather conditions, which caused floods in some areas, no casualties or severe injuries have been reported,” said the NCEMA.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai has directed the Ministry of Interior to deploy rescue teams from other nearby emirates such as Dubai and Sharjah to support Fujairah and the east of the UAE.
Rare July flooding in #UAE has caused major damage over last 24hrs, with thousands taken to shelters. This video is from Kalba market, near Fujairah which was badly hit,” said journalist Joyce Karam on Thursday.
There has been an outpouring of support from many across the UAE, as many have asked how they can help the many who have been affected in the recent flooding.
