Parts of Sharjah will be getting free parking on Thursday, October 21 during the UAE’s public holiday to celebrate the birthday of the Prophet Muhammed PBUH, the government announced today.

Parking zones that will be free of fees are the same ones that are free on Fridays—all zones that have fees on Fridays and on other public holidays will still have fees.

If that’s confusing, basically, if it has a blue parking sign, it’s not free.

Everywhere is free except: Al Hisn Street (Bank complex), Al Shuwaiheen, Al Shoyoukh Corniche Street, Qays Ibn Abi Sa’sa’ah Street, Al Jubail, Central Souq, Al Majaz 1, Corniche Street (Khalid Lagoon area), Majaz 1, Majaz 2, University City Road, and Muwaileh Commercial Area, according to authorities.

“The areas that were excluded from the free parking initiative were identified based on a study. Field research has found several parking violations in these zones during public holidays,” said an official for the Municipality.

“Some motorists have previously been caught occupying two parking slots for one vehicle, while other residents misuse the spaces by leaving their cars in the area for two to three days,” he said.
