The allure of Deep Dive Dubai’s 60m deep pool has attracted all kinds of personalities to try it such as Will Smith and now the free diving world champion Alexey Molchanov.
Using only a single breath, Molchanov managed to swim the full 60 metres to the bottom of the world’s deepest pool and back to the surface in just 57 seconds. Breaking all records currently held at Deep Dive Dubai.
Molchanov was packing
To prepare of his deep descent, the Russian freediver performed a breathing technique know as “lung packing”. This allows a person to inflate their lungs with as much as two gallons of air and stay under water for extra minutes. Molchanov has practised this technique over a number of years.

Free diving forces the body to go through several changes to help with the rapid acclimatisation. Divers need to reduce their heart rate by over 50% to respond the the underwater depths. In order to cope with underwater pressure, the body undergoes peripheral vasoconstriction which involves blood being pushed to only the vital organs to make sure the body continues to function properly. To compensate from the excess pressure, the lungs expand as necessary to allow for changes in the body.

What to expect at Deep Dive Dubai
Anyone interested in checking out Deep Dive Dubai for themselves can do so without having to pack their lungs since they offer everyone the chance to explore their depths with the help of the latest scuba gear and guidance from professional divers.

Located in Nad Al Sheba, the depths of the pool also contain a sunken city for divers to explore. Sadly no treasure chests can be taken home.
