Well, this was high on my list of things I didn’t expect to see this year. But then again, considering Mark Zuckerberg randomly accompanying fighters as they walk out to the UFC octagon, perhaps this isn’t so strange after all.
Dana White has officially joined the board of directors at Meta (formerly Facebook), bringing the social media juggernatu’s board to 13 directors, including founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg.
“We have massive opportunities ahead i AI, wearables, and the future of social media,” Zuckerberg said. “Our board will help us achieve our vision.
Zuckerberg himself has been a longtime fan of ultimate fighting, and tore his ACL in the fall of 2023 while training for his alleged superfight against Elon Musk, which never happened.
This sudden news comes on the heels of Trump’s presidential victory, someone who is a close friend of Dana White who campaigned vehemently for the incoming President. Still, White claims that he is now completely done with politics moving forward.
“I’m never f***ing doing this again,” White said in an interview. “I want nothing to do with this s***. It’s gross. It’s disgusting.” A predictably explicit answer from the UFC president.
Don’t be surprised if you start seeing more UFC adds on Facebook in the coming months. But better yet, perhaps Zuckerberg will stop accompanying fighters to the cage and will end up fighting inside it himself. Doubtful? Plausible? Who knows?
