What to eat
If you find establishments offering kangaroo hard to come by, then the Aussie burger at newly opened marina spot Ultra Brasserie is as authentic a replacement as you’ll find in these parts. Prime wagyu beef sandwiched between beetroot, pineapple and egg, it packs what we’re told are all the traditional Aussie burger staples in one messy, but hugely enjoyable, brioche wrapped monster.

Where to go
The Lazy Bushman’s lunch at the Palm’s Anantara harnesses everything you’d normally associate with Oz, just with a view of the Burj Al Arab in the background instead of the Sydney Opera House. A variety of excellent meat offerings (including kangaroo) ice cold beverages and some relaxed live music (not a didgeridoo in sight) , all make for a pretty bonzer Saturday afternoon.

Where to party
You need a beach, you need sand, you need free flowing ‘amber nectar’ (to shamelessy use the Fosters ad vernacular). Where else but the Duabi institution that is Barasti Beach bar? Free entry all day, a special guest band playing and more bikini-clad babes and posturing douchebags than you can shake a boomerang at.
