To celebrate the Islamic Hijri New Year, parking will be free for two days starting tomorrow in Dubai and Sharjah.
Public parking will be free Thursday, August 12, announced both by the Sharjah Municipality and Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). Because Friday has free parking anyhow, this means that residents of Dubai and Sharjah will enjoy two free days of free parking.
Fees will begin again on Saturday, August 14.
Quick note though, this doesn’t apply to 7-day paid parking zones with a blue parking information sign in Sharjah though, so be careful where you park.
The Dubai Metro will operate on both Red and Green lines from 5 am to 1 am on Thursday, with Dubai Tram operating from 6 am to 1 am.
Service provider centres and customer happiness centres will be closed tomorrow.
This public holiday, across the entire country, is the beginning of the new Islamic year 1442. The Hijri New Year is the day where the Prophet Mohammed migrated from Makkah to Madinah.
However, because it is an Islamic holiday, hotels and bars are prohibited from serving licensed beverages and hosting live performances of any sort. Muslims do not correlate this holiday with public celebrations.
Regular work will resume on Sunday, August 15, 2021.
Enjoy the long weekend, everyone!
