The campaign actually hit a staggering 216 million worldwide, said the Ruler of Dubai

If 100 million meals sounded like a lot, wait until you hear how many people Dubai’s Ramadan campaign actually fed.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minster of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced on Twitter that the 100 Million Meals campaign that launched at the beginning of Ramadan has doubled its goal by reaching 216 million meals donated.

Organised by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), the 100 Million Meals initiative aims to support disadvantaged individuals and families in 20 countries during the holy month of Ramadan by raising AED 100 million in order to provide them with 100 million meals and is the biggest food drive in the region.

The ongoing goal of the plan is to end hunger, achieve food security and improve nutrition by 2030. The campaign reflects the values of Ramadan by promoting compassion, benevolence and the values of giving.

This ultimately reflects the humanitarian principles of the UAE which are to help those in need across the globe regardless of their race, religion or nationality.

Through website, SMS, bank transfer and call centre donations, the UAE truly came together. The ruler of Dubai stated that 385,000 people had contributed to the Ramadan initiate and that due to the overwhelming success of the campaign, the reach will be expanded and meals will now be donated to 30 countries.

The 100 Million Meals drive has already reached Pakistan, Jordan, Egypt, Ghana, Angola and Uganda and many more countries will soon be enjoying meals as well.

“These are the people of the UAE. This is the spirit of Ramadan in my beautiful country. This is the UAE,” tweeted His Highness Sheikh Mohammed.

This accomplishment has undoubtedly had a huge impact on families in locations where the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic greatly affected food security as well as poverty and unemployment rates worldwide.

Ramadan kareem, UAE!
