The announcement is part of numerous guidelines designed to curb the spread of COVID-19

Ramadan 2021 is beginning to take clearer shape in the UAE. Abu Dhabi announced today that permits for Ramadan tents will not be issued at all this year.

What does that mean? In Abu Dhabi, that means family iftar tents are not allowed, nor are institutional iftars or suhoors. Similarly, public places can’t be used to share meals or distribute iftar meals in front of homes or mosques, in order to keep safe from COVID-19.

The announcement came from the Department of Municipalities and Transport via Twitter. The move came in line with COVID-19 safety protocols, which are following the orders of the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority, or NCEMA, who has been making numerous announcements in the country over the last month.

The same body also prohibited restaurants for distributing iftar meals inside or in front of their restaurants in Abu Dhabi, with delivery also given strict guidelines.

The government bodies also said that there will be intensive inspection campaigns all throughout the holy month, and there will be measures taken against either people or institutions that flout the restrictions.
