Saudi’s MDLBEAST is launching a record label—MDLBEAST Records.
The lifestyle and entertainment brand, based in the Kingdom, will also launch its first album in April, titled Soundstorm Volume 1.
The first single from the album will be released on February 26, a song called “Ringtone” by R3HAB, a Dutch-Morrocan DJ, along with a music video for the song. The album will include tracks by global talent such as Salvatore Ganacci, BUTCH and Afrojack and local rising artists such as Cosmicat, who has been called the first Saudi female DJ.
According to a statement from MDLBEAST, the label will feature recording artists, DJs and producers from across the region, with a focus on finding untapped local artists and attempt to help them grow into international names. The plan is for the label to grow into a series of sub labels that focus on different subgenres, including underground deep house, techno, EDM, and afrobeat.
As MDLBEAST has primarily been an event-focused brand, releases will also center around those events featuring DJs from the region and larger names from around the globe. Soundstorm Vol 1 will focus strongly on international DJs, with subsequent volumes planned later in 2021, as well as a radio show, playlists, remix challenge for the first single “Ringtone” and more.
‘’MDLBEAST is all about amplifying the unseen, building a platform for Arab Artists to showcase their talent to the world & bring international artists closer to arab audiences. Launching our label MDLBEAST Records is another big milestone on our journey to create cultural exchange through music. We are especially proud that our good friend and collaborator R3HAB will be the first artist to officially launch his single ‘Ringtone’ on MDLBEAST Records,” says Saudi national Talal Albahiti, Chief Operating Officer of MDLBEAST.
The Soundstorm event from December 2019, from which the compilation gets its name, was a huge success, welcoming hundreds of thousands. The 2020 edition was postponed due to COVID-19, with another edition expected for 2021 featuring acts including David Guetta and Steve Aoki, who were featured at the first edition of the event.
In 2020, MDLBEAST launched a virtual festival series called Freqways.
