You can expect one heck of a show this National Day

To celebrate the UAE’s 49th National Day, a live production dubbed ‘Seeds of the Union’ will be broadcast live throughout the UAE.

Despite COVID-19 restrictions playing a major part in development of the show (there will be no live audience), the live production is expected to feature digitally-illuminated sculptures surrounded by the sea.

The first details about the show have been revealed by The Organising Committee of the official 49th National Day Celebration. It will portray themes inspired by the UAE’s history and values. The show will also pay a moving tribute to the UAE’s founding fathers.

The show will be staged in Abu Dhabi, and then be broadcast via television and online.

The production was designed by a team of Emiraties, as well as artistic director Es Devlin (who previously worked on the closing ceremony for the London 2012 Summer Olympics).

Khalfan Al Mazrouei, member of the organising committee of the Official 49th UAE National Day Celebration said: “The COVID-19 pandemic required us to approach the official 49th UAE National Day celebrations in a new and ambitious way – one that uses digital visual technology to inspire an audience watching from home.”

“The overarching theme of the live show is one of hope and optimism. Embracing the country’s rich legacy and traditions, it looks ahead to a vivid future in which we remain true to our values.”

National Day celebrates the UAE’s formation, on December 2, 1971.
