Today will officially be the last day of summer here in the UAE, as the sun will now start moving towards the southern hemisphere (in the words of John Snow, ‘winter is coming’).
According to Ibrahim Al Jarwan, a member of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences, Monday September 21 will be the last day of summer.
Today, the sun will be directly over the equator, and starting tomorrow it will begin moving towards the southern hemisphere. That means you can expect the days to start getting shorter, the nights longer and the temperature down slightly.
The day and night will be of equal length again on March 20, 2021 – signifying the start of the summer.
The weather in the UAE has been ‘interesting’ this year. What started as a rather web first few months of the year turned into an extremely hot and arid temperatures. Over the last few weeks the temperatures have fortunately been dropping.
Here’s to a few cooler months.
