Fitness trackers have never been more important, and Huawei’s GT 2e is quite the contender

Fitness trackers and smartwatches were all the rage before the coronavirus pandemic got everyone concerned about their health.

It’s fair to say with half the world affected by the COVID-19 virus, you can expect a few more people to start thinking about getting a little leaner, a little fitter and a little healthier. And that’s where technology comes in.

Fitness trackers are a dime a dozen these days, prompting big tech to innovate beyond the usual step counters. Apple has put its faith in its Apple Watch, filling it with features that will help monitor both your health and wellbeing.

Huawei has decided that’s the right call too, and it’s latest Huawei GT 2e smartwatch is loaded with extra features that will help you lose some of that lockdown lard.

Huawei GT 2e Watch: How’s It look?

From a design perspective this thing is inoffensive, bordering on boring. It’s minimal, to say the least, the physical buttons on the side are thin and flat and it’s pretty trim for a smartwatch. Of course, that makes it light too which is fantastic considering most people will be wearing this while exercising.

Now let’s talk about the screen – it’s fantastic. The AMOLED display is crisp and bright, making it excellent for use outdoors, and you’re really not going to have any trouble with the size.

Huawei GT 2e Watch: What’s it do?

The Huawei does not run Android Wear OS – which means no access to Maps or Spotify. You can’t use it to make or receive phone calls either.

That makes it very much a fitness tracker. You get basic counters such as steps, sleep and hearrate tracking – and then ther are custom settings for more than 100 different activities, including cycling, swimming and skateboarding.

Runners will especially enjoy the built-in GPS (although, with no app you’ll have difficulty exporting it to the likes of Strava). There is also a built in stress tracker, which will map out your heart rate across various parts in the day.

But all that pales in comparison to the watch’s killer feature; the battery life.

Huawei says the GT 2e will do two weeks before it needs a battery top up. We found that was a tad overzealous, but the watch still held up to ten days of testing before needing to be plugged back into its proprietary charger.

Huawei GT 2e Watch: The verdict?

That battery life alone makes the Huawei GT 2e a killer fitness tracker, and for the price of AED600 there’s not much to complain about. Especially considering the fantastic screen.
