A UAE-based research lab has produced a lightning quick COVID-19 screening test which gives users results in seconds.
QuantLase Imaging Lab says the technology will allow for quicker and more accurate tests for the UAE’s workforce, says Arabian Business.
The revolutionary screening process has undergone thousands of tests during its multi-stage trial process, and the firm hopes that it will be ready to be rolled out to the market in a few month’s time.
Unlike other COVID-19 identifiers, QuantLase uses powerful imaging technology to spot the virus.
“Our last-based DPI [diffractive phase interferometry] technique, based on optical-phase modulation, is able to give a signature of infection within a few seconds,” Dr Pramond Kumar, the head of the technology’s research team, said.
“The device is suitable for use not only in hospitals and public places like cinemas and shopping malls, but with a little hands-on training it can be used for in-house testing and monitoring,” he added. “We believe it will be a game-changer in tackling the spread of the coronavirus.”
According to AbdulRahman bin Mohammed Al Owais, the UAE’s Minister of Health and Prevention, the new technology will be a real boon for early and rapid detection of the COVID-19 virus.
“The government is keen on supporting initiatives that help the healthcare system in the UAE.”
“Health officials have been closely monitoring the progress of trials with QuantLase in order to test this equipment,” he added. “We are proud to see a technology that works and will help to protect our people better.”
