His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and the Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, has responded to a handwritten note sent by Grade 1 student Archie Appleyard, asking to be reunited with his mother currently stuck in the UK due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Seven-year-old Archie wrote to Sheikh Saud, telling him that his mother had been stuck in the UK for the past 52 days, due to travel restrictions put in place to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
In response to the letter, Sheikh Saud said, “”I was pleased today to respond to a letter from Archie, the British boy whose mother was prevented from returning from the UK to Ras Al Khaimah due to the current circumstances.”
Archie’s letter included the phrase, “It has been 52 sleeps now that I have been apart from my mother.”
“I feel so sad because we have never been apart for this long and all I dream and wish for is my mummy’s return.”
The ruler of RAK said he is doing everything he can: “”We worked to help reunite him with his mother at the earliest opportunity, highlighting on Zayed Humanitarian Day that the UAE will always be a beacon of humanity in this world.”
Travel restrictions are currently in place on flights in and out of the UAE and Europe. The only flights that are clear to leave involve the re-patriation of citizens from both countries.
