From stretching classes to online tutorials – these ballet stars have inspired thousands to get fit from home

Ballet performers are some of the fittest on the planet, and many aren’t going to let the coronavirus get in the way of that.

Stars of the American Ballet Theatres Isabella Boylson and James Whiteside have posted videos of them using a kitchen worktop as a stand-in ballet barre, while Russian Vadim Muntagirov – a dancer at the Royal Ballet in London – has posted videos of him pirouetting around the living room.

It has inspired a brand new meme #balletfitness which has seen some of the world’s top performers take to social media to inspire a world now practicing social isolation.

Every day in Paris, Hugo Marchand – star dancer at the Paris Opera – hooks up via video conference with six fellow dancers for “collective barre practice”.

Elsewhere, Paris Opera dancer Arnaud Dreyfus is putting out guides on how to stretch, as well as how to ensure stay-at-home fitness remains safe.
