The UAE Government has asked residents to stay at home unless it is absolutely necessary, such as picking up food and medicine or perform essential jobs.
Arabian Business reports that the UAE’s Ministry of Interior and the National Emergency and Crisis and Disasters Management Authority urged UAE citizens to comply with the new instructions.
The aim is to limit social contact between people and avoid crowded places.
Earlier today, the UAE also announced that malls would be put on hold for the next two weeks (with the ruling coming in to effect over the next 48-hours) and that all beaches would be closed for the foreseeable future.
“The public is also urged to use their own family cars with a maximum of three individuals per vehicle. They are also advised not to visit public places and maintain social distancing protocols during family gatherings as part of the precautionary measures taken to ensure public health and safety,” added the statement.
Officials also urged people to not visit hospitals, except for critical or emergency cases, and to use face masks.
“Additional instructions will be issued later involving the use of public transport, taxis and other means of transportation,” said the statement.
