We’re going back to the city of Agrabah

Although Disney‘s Aladdin reboot got mixed reviews, it was a massive hit at the box office – making over $1 billion worldwide – and now a sequel is on the way.

Stars Will Smith, Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott are all wanted back for the follow-up, but it’s not known yet whether Guy Ritchie is returning as director (via Variety).

However, the movie does have two new Oscar-nominated writers on board: John Gatins, who was nominated for Denzel Washington drama Flight, and Andrea Berloff (Straight Outta Compton).

Last year’s film – written by Ritchie and John August – was based on the 1992 animated classic, but this one won’t have anything to do with the animation’s straight-to-video sequels and will be an entirely new idea. However, there’s no word just yet about its plot.

Aladdin is also getting a spin-off on streaming service Disney+, focusing on Billy Magnussen’s dim-witted Prince Anders from the live-action reboot.

Originally created for the box-office hit, Anders was a royal from the fictional kingdom Skanland and a potential suitor for Princess Jasmine.

Disney is yet to announce when this spin-off will be hitting screens.
