If you thought the whole Game of Thrones saga had come to an end after their eight-season long show wrapped up earlier this year, well, you thought wrong. HBO has confirmed that it has ordered a “Game of Thrones” prequel from George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal, based on “Fire & Blood” series.
So what exactly will the show be about?
Martin published a book on Targaryen history, last year, titled Fire and Blood after the words of House Targaryen. It didn’t exactly recieve rave reviews from critics, who said it was a medieval history textbook filled with dragons and incest.
But that doesn’t seem to have deterred HBO, who have now decided to turn that into it’s very own show.
The prequel is reportedly set 300 years before the events of main series which will follow House Targaryen from its beginning to its end.
“The Game of Thrones universe is so rich with stories,” said HBO programming president Casey Bloys. “We look forward to exploring the origins of House Targaryen and the earlier days of Westeros along with Miguel, Ryan and George.”

Earlier this year, Entertainment Weekly reported that the series plans to focus mainly on the Dance of the Dragons, the civil war that occurred within House Targaryen. The title is also of the most recently released novel in the A Song of Ice and Fire series, A Dance with Dragons.
In the main series, Shireen Baratheon was quoted as saying:
“It’s the story of the fight between Rhaenyra Targaryen and her halfbrother Aegon for control over the Seven Kingdoms,” she said. “Both of them thought they belonged on the Iron Throne. When people started declaring for one of them or the other, their fight divided the kingdoms in two. Brothers fought brothers, dragons fought dragons. By the time it was over, thousands were dead. And it was a disaster for the Targaryens as well. They never truly recovered.”
